MORE REVENUE.
IS IT MORE PROFIT?
U.S. hotel revenue continues to grow year over year. The operational question is how much of that growth reaches the bottom line.
Reporting period: October 11–17, 2026
All three national metrics improved from the comparable week a year earlier. ADR and RevPAR, however, were slightly lower than the previous week's $179.58 ADR and $126.79 RevPAR. A one-week movement is not, by itself, a trend.

MARKET WATCH · EVENTS MATTER
Event calendars can dramatically change hotel demand. Detroit recorded a reported 20% year-over-year RevPAR increase during the Battery Show North America, while San Francisco's RevPAR declined 21.2% against a prior-year comparison affected by Dreamforce timing.
Operational takeaway: Before interpreting a market's performance, compare local event dates, group displacement, pricing decisions and the same-period demand mix.
THE PROFITABILITY CHALLENGE
Higher room revenue does not guarantee higher gross operating profit. Wage pressure, staffing availability, insurance expenses, maintenance and purchasing discipline all affect the amount of revenue a property retains.
Management focus: Match labor to demand, monitor departmental flow-through, address maintenance early and review costs without weakening the guest experience.
LOOKING AHEAD
As operators plan for 2027, moderate growth assumptions and continued expense discipline make accurate forecasting and department-level accountability essential. Property-specific forecasts should take precedence over broad national averages.
CARLOS'S TAKE
MORE REVENUE DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN MORE PROFIT.A hotel can increase occupancy, push ADR and celebrate stronger RevPAR while quietly losing ground on profitability.
Labor schedules don't always match business volume. Maintenance gets deferred. Purchasing goes unchecked. Operational inefficiencies become accepted as the cost of doing business.
The answer isn't simply cutting expenses. It's understanding where every dollar goes, aligning staffing with demand, protecting the physical asset and holding department leaders accountable.
A successful hotel doesn't just generate revenue. It knows how to keep it—without sacrificing the guest experience.
That's CHAOS Hospitality.
REPORTING NOTES
National metrics are reported weekly, not monthly. Year-over-year changes compare with the equivalent week in 2025. Market examples reflect event-driven comparisons and should not be generalized across all hotels.
